Eye Care Gambia to Host Inaugural Gala, Sponsored by Miramar City Commissioner, Winston Barnes

In continued efforts to raise funds to support providing comprehensive eye care to The People of Gambia.

Miramar, FL—Eye Care Gambia, sponsored by Miramar City Commissioner, Winston Barnes, will host their first inaugural gala event in Miramar, Florida on Saturday, June 29, 2019. This gala is a fundraising event for the nonprofit organization, Eye Care Gambia (ECG). The goal is to raise money to continue eye treatment and care for the people of The Gambia in West Africa. The vision of ECG is to deliver excellent and comprehensive quality eye care and ancillary services to the people of the African nation at no cost.

“There are so many people who become blind from illnesses that are completely treatable in the United States. It’s sad to see a young man or woman lose their eyesight simply because they have never seen an eye doctor before,” said ECG Founder and President, Dr. Sulayman Jallow. “It’s my hope that we will raise enough money from the Gala, as well as other endeavors, to save the vision of as many people in the region as possible.”  Miramar Commissioner Winston Barnes notes, “In developing countries how well a population is educated greatly affects – to an extent – improving health and social concerns. Therefore supporting this venture goes beyond assisting with the maintenance of eye care but leads to increased educational and community gains.”

In a speech given at the National Assembly of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia thanked Dr. Jallow for his hard work and dedication stating, “Professor Jallow’s NGO, Eye Care Gambia Incorporated, continues to provide substantial material and technical expertise to needy Gambians. This level of patriotism is commendable and worthy of emulation.  His work continues to support the delivery of advanced, modern eye care services to our people especially those with diabetic eye disease. We are proud of this work in collaboration with our Specialist Eye Hospital in Kanifing, the Sheikh Zayed Regional Eye Care Centre.”

The Eye Care Gambia Inaugural Gala will be held on June 29th at Miramar Cultural Center, 2400 Civic Center Place, in Miramar, FL from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Tickets are priced at $100 per person and can be purchased online at EyeCareGambia.com or Eventbrite.  For more information about Eye Care Gambia, visit www.EyeCareGambia.com.
